Born and bred in Urmston, and still a resident today, Carol Chappell recently swapped her hectic corporate life for an even busier life of a baker, coffee shop owner and all round entrepreneur in Urmston, having just opened the doors to The Larder at 7.
Carol was born at Urmston Cottage Hospital, a little maternity hospital that used to be located on Primrose Avenue. She attended Urmston Grammar and for 27 years worked for Barclays in IT, commuting to work daily to her office in Knutsford. She then set up as an independent IT consultant and found herself back in Knutsford for five more years, before deciding it was time to stop and do something different, something fresh, something for the love. Baking has always been Carol’s passion so she decided to open The Larder at 7, Urmston’s latest independent coffee shop.
After locating the perfect site at 7 Higher Road, Carol invested time in the look and feel of the shop working hard on its interior design. The name The Larder at 7 came from her desire to create a homely, cosy, comforting warm and welcoming coffee shop, with ‘larder’ a nod to nostalgic times within the home and at 7 linked to the location of the coffee shop on Higher Road. Whilst the refurbishment was taking place throughout November and December, Carol was busy barista training, adding a new string to her bow, and baking, coming up with the perfect starting menu for her venture. She was also successfully building The Larder at 7 brand, launching The Larder at 7 social media channels and keeping her potential customers up to speed on progress at the coffee shop, as well serving festive treats in Urmston…giving local residents and visitors a taste of what was to come!
Now open, fresh, homemade cakes and cookies, all baked by Carol at the premises daily are available, served with a selection of drinks, including flavoursome tea, rich coffee and even a little tipple! Select wines, fizz as well as Gin & Tonic’s can be enjoyed at The Larder at 7, making it the perfect place to go!
The most popular cake so far at The Larder at 7 is the millionaire shortbread, although Carol’s favourite cake of all time is a Bakewell tart, which will soon be available too.
In time, Carol will introduce a delicious lunch menu and a charming afternoon tea menu. She will also look to host events at The Larder at 7, and the venue will also be able for private hire too, with enquiries for baby showers and birthday parties already flooding in.
Supporting Carol is her team of three; Jan, Morgan and Layla, all of whom are really looking forward to welcoming you to The Larder at 7.
The Larder at 7 is currently open Tuesday to Saturday, from 9.30am until 4pm.
